Knees

For the first time in a long while, I am optomistic about my knees.  :)

Brief history of anait's knees - injured the right one 25 yrs ago, re-injured it 2 yrs ago; both knees are 'loose', easy to slip in and out of place.

My right knee has hurt since last spring; and recently, my left knee has been popping out of place.  Mobility has become an interesting adventure!

The week before Christmas, I had an MRI on the right knee, to discover if the damage is fixable.  The knee specialist called me back last week; the damage is to my kneecap, and surgery to fix it has a low success rate.  This was not disappointing to me, b/c I didn't relish the idea of surgery.  :)  Instead, the doctor recommended physiotherapy, so the leg muscles can compensate for both the damaged right kneecap and both knees' 'looseness'.

Today, the physiotherapist gave me six exercises to try for one week, with 1-2 lb ankle weights.  The exercises are not new to me, but it was very good to have him explain exactly what they're doing, how the muscles are knit together around my knees...how to get the most benefit from them.  I go back next Monday to assess their effectiveness, and perhaps add new ones.

So, it has been a very positive few days.  :)  I am looking forward to going for a hike in the woods on next year's vacation.

Be vewy, vewy quiet...

I'm hunting wabbits...   Well, I don't know what the heck I was hunting last night.  Okay, I wasn't actually hunting...more like hearing, and then avoiding.

I got home about 10pm. Went to say goodnight to Omi.  While in her room, both cats came to get me, meowing very insistently.  I figured they had just been missing me...

Next I went to the basement to say goodnight to Anni (camping out in the playplace).  From behind the wall, where there is access to the electrical panel via two small cabinet-sized doors, I hear a very loud scratching/scrabbling.  I'm thinking, K, that's the biggest mouse I've EVER heard...

Anni and Emily inform me they've been hearing the sound for about 15 minutes - they thought it was one of the cats fooling around.  Both cats are perched on the basement stairs, staring intently at the wall...

I gather up Anni's blankets, and relocate her to her actual bedroom.  I go back downstairs to strategize with Emily, who helpfully suggests that perhaps it's a rat?  I come back with, well, maybe it's a REALLY big spider...great, we've got Aragog stuck in our basement wall.

While I'm still downstairs, the commotion suddenly stops.  I head back upstairs to my computer, to inform Mike of the events thus far.  While messaging with him, it comes to me that the creature might be a bird.  We've had at least three get in over the past couple of years, not sure how...possibly from the furnace chimney.  A bird could easily make that much noise, and could have knocked itself out trying to escape from the wall.

So, I'm going with - bird.  It doesn't really make sense that a rodent would suddenly find its way into the house - it's not like access has improved, there are still 5' high snowdrifts piled against, well, nearly the whole house.  Mike suggested I get a flashlight from the garage, and take a look behind the wall to see what it is/was.  Yuh huh.  He'll be home Thursday.  Smile

Whatever is is, I just hope it doesn't start to smell...

How do you like your menWell, I'll stick with one.  :)  Taller and bigger than me; Christ-follower; patient with people; good sense of humour; intelligent, musical
Turnoffs on opposite sex?  Meanness, uncleanliness, laziness, bad kisser

If you could ask God a question, what would it be?  "How long?"

What would you do if no one would ever find out?  That wouldn't influence my choice
Die with wealth, or a loved one?  Loved one
Favourite movie quote?  "Everybody remember where we parked." - Captain Kirk, The Voyage Home.  I am thus far incapable of leaving or returning to my car in a parking lot without saying this.

Look to your left: what do you see?  My dresser; three pictures of us at Falcon Lake - one at a lookout and two on the beach; a picture of the kids in a phone booth; a picture of the three younger kids at A's kindergarten graduation; a postcard of a painting; a phone; a Bible from Israel; some papers; a dish of shiny/pretty things I like to look at; a dish of keys and money; a gift I haven't given; a pic of E at age 3; my bathrobe; my Bono hat; a watercolour of M and I on our 7th anniversary
Where in the world do you feel the safest?  At home or at a friend's home, curled up cozily with a drink on a cold night/day
What are you looking forward to next summer?  Going back to Falcon Lake
Biggest regret?  Wasting time and causing hurt
East Coast or West Coast?  Either, in Canada at least - west for the plants, east for the atmosphere (and Michael Smith's restaurant).

What motivates you?  Well-written, orthodox books on being a Christ-follower; also, upcoming events I'm looking forward to
What is love?  Putting others' needs ahead of your own, and wanting to do that; desiring the best for the other person; commitment for life
How many people does it take to screw in a lightbulb?  Only one... but the key is remembering it needs changing...

Winter or summer?  Both - can't garden in winter, can't make snowmen or snow forts in summer
If you were on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition; what kind of room would you ask for? If it was a room specially planned for me, it would be a big studio space with lots of light - space for working with plants indoors, space for my drafting table and computer, space for a piano, space for all the related plant and architecture and design and music books and papers...plus a seating area for people to hang out.
If you were one word, what word would you be?  I'm nothing if not inconsistent.  :)  Um, I don't know...some people would say unforgettable, but not in a "WOW!!" way, though...but I seem to be someone people remember, even if they've met me only once

Why are you taking this interview? I love answering questions about myself.  :)  Ego thing. Well, and often the answers show me something about myself I hadn't thought of before.

What attracts you most? Genuine love
Do you hold hands when you walk in public? Yes, if I'm with someone who wants to
Describe your perfect Sunday morning. Waking up slowly, taking time for breakfast and relaxing by the window (or on the deck in summer), driving to church with music on and everyone in the car thinking ahead to worship.
What makes you cry? When people are showing love to other people, being generous when it isn't expected (e.g. Extreme Makeover Home Edition); when a friend or acquaintance loses a loved one; and during movies with those kinds of things. :)
What makes you laugh? Witty, smart stuff, but not mean-spirited or crude; zingers that come when you least expect them; facial expressions used instead of a funny line; all those things with really excellent comedic timing
If you won the lottery, how would you spend your millions? Give to our church; give to CINAG [the orphanage]; pay off debts; put into RESPS and RRSPS and savings; travel; finish renos on our current house.
Do you believe that the cup is half empty or half full? Half empty, but I don't think it's b/c I'm a pessimist.  :)  I rarely fill a cup only half-full, so I would just assume that someone has been enjoying a beverage!
